How to Answer: “Tell Me About Yourself” in a Job Interview When You Have No Experience
No previous experience? No worries! 🤗 Answering the question “tell me about yourself” in a job interview can seem overwhelming at first. 🧠 But all you have to do is have them think “wow! This person is capable and professional. Let’s hire them!” So here’s a sample template I put together the next time you find yourself being asked this question.
✨ Start with the past: Where do you come from? What’s a relevant piece of information from your past?
✨ Go into the present: What do you currently do? What are you interested in?
✨ End with the future: Talk about future goals & ambitions related to your career.
It looks something like this 👇🏼👇🏼
Interviewer: "So, tell me about yourself."
Candidate: [past] "Sure. I’m from Brooklyn 🌆 Growing up, my mom owned a hair salon so I guess customer service runs in my blood!
[present] I graduated from Northwest High School where I played varsity basketball for four years 🏀
[future] I’m looking to go to community college in a few years after I save up some money. When I’m not working or studying, I like to hang out with my friends, try new restaurants and play guitar."
Remember: ➕ keep it positive, keep it polite, and you’ll be okay :) You got this!
