Secret Job Interview Etiquette

In my recent TikTok video, I uncovered some hidden gems that can make a remarkable difference in your interview performance. So, get ready to ace your interviews and make a lasting impression. Let's dive right in! 🏊🏻‍♀️

The Power of Punctuality

First and foremost, let's talk about the power of punctuality. Arriving on time for an interview is not only a sign of respect, but it also shows your potential employer that you take the opportunity seriously. So add 20 minutes ⏰ to your commute to account for any potential delays. If you arrive too early, 🚶🏼take a walk around the block and aim to enter the building 10-15 minutes early. This gives you a chance to catch your breath, review your notes, and walk into the interview with confidence.

Dressing the Part

Now, let's move on to dressing the part. It's important to make a positive first impression through your appearance so dress professionally and appropriately 🧑‍💼👨‍💼 for the industry and company culture. A good rule of thumb is to dress slightly more formal than the company's dress code. It's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Remember, your appearance is a reflection of your professionalism and respect for the opportunity ✨👍🏻

The Art of a Firm Handshake

The firm handshake. Yes, it's a classic, and yes, it still matters. When you meet your interviewer, make sure to STAND UP! You ❌ do not ❌ want to shake their hand sitting down. Extend your hand confidently, maintain eye contact, and deliver a firm, but not bone-crushing, handshake. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼This simple gesture will set a positive tone for the interview.

Speaking Volumes with your Body Language

When it comes to body language, you want to be aware that your non-verbal cues can speak volumes during an interview. Sit up straight, maintain good posture, and make sure to keep eye contact 👀 with your interviewer. Avoid fidgeting or excessive hand gestures, as they can be distracting. Show interest and engagement through your body language, and let your enthusiasm shine through.

Mindful Phone Habits

Also be mindful of your phone 📱 It’s good practice to keep your phone on silent and out of sight 🔐 during the interview, even while you’re in the waiting room. Simply come in, be friendly, and sit tight. It might feel awkward, but I promise you it doesn’t look that way.

A Lasting Impression

Lastly, never forget to send a thank-you note. After the interview, take the time to send a thoughtful thank-you email or note to your interviewer(s). Express your gratitude for the opportunity to interview and reiterate your interest in the position.  It’s one of the simplest yet most effective gestures you can take to show your professionalism and attention to detail. Not only does it help you stand out from other candidates, but it also helps you leave a lasting impression ✨

By mastering these techniques, you'll present yourself as a polished and professional candidate, giving you an edge in the job search process. 👨🏻‍🏫🕵🏾‍♀️👩‍💼 Remember, interviews are not just about your qualifications and skills, but also about how you present yourself and interact with others.
