How to: Ask for an Update When a Company Ghosts You

So, you've been ghosted by a company during the job application process 👻 You've sent in your resume and cover letter, you've had an interview, and then...crickets. Nada 🙅🏼‍♀️ Zilch ❌ You've been ghosted by the company, and it stings. But fear not, because I've got some tips on what to write to a company when they ghost you.

First things first, take a deep breath and resist the urge to let your frustration spill out in your message. I know it's tough, but professionalism is key here 🔑 Your message should be polite, concise, and direct. Here are some tips on what to include:

Remind Them Who You Are

The hiring manager may have received dozens of applications, so remind them of who you are and which position you applied for. It's possible that your application simply got lost in the shuffle 🤷🏼‍♀️

Express Your Continued Interest

Let them know that you're still interested in the position and that you'd like an update on the status of your application. This shows that you're committed and eager to join their team.

Ask For A Timeline

If the company hasn't provided a timeline for the hiring process, politely ask for one. This can help manage your expectations and give you an idea of when you might hear back.

Keep It Short and Sweet

Your follow-up email shouldn't be a novel 📚 Keep it brief and to the point, while still being polite and professional.

Here's an example of what your follow-up email could look like:

Subject: Follow-Up on [Position Title] Application

Dear [Hiring Manager],

I hope this email finds you well. I applied for the [Position Title] role on [Date Applied], and I wanted to follow up on the status of my application.

I know this hiring decision is taking longer than anticipated, but since I haven’t heard back from you, I’ll assume this position is no longer available.

If that’s not the case, do you know when I can expect to hear an update about the hiring decision? I am still very interested in the position and would appreciate any update you can provide.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

[Your Name]

Remember, there are a million reasons why a company might not respond to your application 📈 It could be as simple as an overwhelming amount of applications or a delay in the hiring process. Whatever the reason, a polite follow-up email can help keep you on their radar and show that you're serious about the position. You got this!👏👏
